Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
• DBT is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy designed to help people manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and build a life that feels more balanced and meaningful.
• Originally developed for individuals who experience difficulty with emotional regulation, self-harm, or impulsive behaviours, DBT has since been adapted to support a wide range of challenges—including anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, and difficulties with anger or interpersonal conflict.
• DBT combines cognitive behavioural strategies with mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches. It focuses on four key areas:
- Emotion regulation – understanding and managing strong feelings
- Distress tolerance – getting through crisis moments without making things worse
- Interpersonal effectiveness – building stronger, healthier relationships
- Mindfulness – learning to stay present and grounded
• At our practice, DBT can be delivered in individual therapy or as part of a broader skills-based approach, tailored to your specific needs. We work collaboratively to support change while also fostering self-acceptance, helping you feel more in control and connected to what matters most.
